Excalibur King Arthur's Legendary Sword by Denix
Relive the Legend of King Arthur with Excalibur
Replica of King Arthur's sword made of metal and removable lined plastic scabbard. The story of King Arthur is intimately linked to the magical and mysterious Excalibur sword, an iconic artifact from the legend. Its name means "Cut Steel," alluding to its many properties. It was also said that the sheath of Excalibur possessed the ability to protect whoever carried it from being harmed or injured.
There are several legends of how Arthur obtained this mythical sword. Two main versions stand out: the first tells of Excalibur as the sword drawn from a stone by Arthur, and the second, as the sword entrusted to the young king by the Lady of the Lake.
Excalibur's Origin According to Legend
According to Geoffrey of Monmouth, Merlin forged the mighty sword Excalibur on the island of Avalon after the death of King Uther Pendragon. He then buried it in a steel anvil on a rock near St. Paul. Whoever could draw the sword from the anvil would be the legitimate king of England. When young Arthur reached the age of sixteen, his father took him and his brothers to London to participate in a tournament between knights. While searching for a sword for his brother Kay, Arthur grasped Excalibur and easily drew it from the stone, automatically crowning him king.
